Liam's story

“I just want the very best for our son.”

Liam was born in Costa Rica with Thalassemia major, a condition that prevents his body from producing red blood cells, requiring monthly transfusions. Before the age of three, he had already undergone spleen surgery and faced several complications.

In 2022, his parents, Juan and Dinia, moved to Canada for more treatment options.

“Moving to Canada came with its own set of adjustments,” says Juan. “But everywhere we go, people have shown us kindness in ways we never expected.”

Now seven, Liam is thriving. He loves math, he is learning French and he's made new friends. Despite his increased sensitivities to cold, he enjoys Canadian winter activities like skating.
